Video/MPEG/AVI editor needed

Hi

Can anyone recommend software that will allow me to cut down mpeg files to make them smaller for e-mailing purposes, and just for cutting out tedious periods of inaction?

I have XP and have the latest Windows Media Player and was told there was one bundled in, but I don't think there is. If there is, I can't find it.

Preferably a free download would be appreciated.

Thanks for that. As I have XP and SP2 it seems to suggest that I have moviemaker, but when I do a search through all files and folders, it doesn't show.

Also, when I right click on an mpeg and suchlike, shouldn't there be an option to 'open with movie maker' or something similar?

I just cannot find it on my system at all.

Hidden away in a subfolder in my Program Files.
