Only thing I can think of are the video accleration settings in Windows Media Player in Tools, Options then Performance tab. (I'm using 10 but 9 should be the same from memory)

Do you have any other video players to see if they do the same?

Is it doing this from disk or hard drive?

if this occurs in multiple video programs, its likely a codec problem

if you have any codecs or codec packs installed, uninstall them.

i recommend installing FFDSHOW to give you the Divx and Xvid codecs you need, as well various audio codecs. http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow

click Download next to ffdshow alpha and choose a server

Codec was my next suspicion, but from your reply it wouldn't appear so.

Anyway, have you checked the settings in Tools, Options as I suggested?

Also, try uninstalling and then repairing if it gives you that option, or uninstalling and then reinstalling.

    What plug-ins do you have?

What types of movies is it doing this on? (EG encoder used in the problem video)

Are you using the latest compatible video card driver? (Also check sound card drivers as they can cause this)

One more thing to add, I have Media Player 10, but you should have similar settings so go to View, Enhancements, Play Speed Settings and adjust it there.

Well it's very hard providing support over the internet, and it's next to impossible without correct and precise feedback. You may know what is happening on your PC but we don't. Anyway,

The golden rule of video encoding is to only ever install what and when you need.

Installing various codec packs is a recipe for disaster and very difficult to remedy.

I would suggest you remove all the codecs installed, but you will also need to go through and manually remove any remnants.

If you leave anything behind the problem will still be there.

As I said, check your sound and video drivers and update them if you can, and DirectX too.

As far as removing the codecs, it's not a simple matter of just using the uninstall entry or Add/Remove.

Unless you remove every single file, the problem will remain.

I've seen a lot of people have to format and start again because of needless codecs they installed.
