i didn't know to put this in h/w or s/w, but i thought here was appropriate.

hi all, i recently noticed that i've got some video problems lately. the 1st thing i noticed the other day (didn't give it much thought), as this is 1 of 4 comps here at my house, but this is the only vista comp. anyway, i 1st noticed that my screen saver didn't work the other day.

then today, i noticed that i couldn't play a movie (some kind of error). in the media player, so i rebooted as it asked me to, same problem. i then decided to check device manager and i noticed an error.

now, i do remember doing some windows updates (and 1 was for the video card) the other day (or last week), so i'm now thinking this might be around the time it started, and i never noticed it until today.

i know in xp, i can uninstall from device manager, and upon reboot, it will reinstall the drivers. is that the same case with vista? i've not yet contacted acer, as i'll have to dig around for the serial #, etc. however, i've only had this comp for a few months (2-4 maybe).

anyway, i'm off to go play pool (billiards), so i'll check back in later on. thx, sos

You dont want to allow Windows or Acer to determine the driver, they tend to be way behind and often support from the manufacturer is dropped after a year or two at worst.

See if this is a newer driver:

Side note, Intel is the runt of the video card litter. Ati and Nvidia are 10x better, I wish companies would stop putting that video chipset onboard, but it must be cheap. Its been like this since Intel released a video card.

well, that didn't work. i tried it the other day. i even uninstalled from device manager, and reinstalled (the link you gave me). i tried going to the acer site, and found a couple of downloads, but they didn't work either. i finally sent an e-mail to acer tech support, and they said to try to do a system restore (however i have no earlier restoration points prior to this problem). according to them, i'll have to do a total restoration (if above didn't work).

on a side note: i like gateway, or hp/compaq tech support better (online chat, etc.). when i shot an e-mail to acer (as i saw no other option), it took like 3 days to get a response!! and, i can't believe that is their only options. thx, sos
