video problems

Right i had to reinstall all my windows xp after it totally crashed now got everything up and running again,but when i go to watch video's all i get is a empty box,then a smaller box in the top left corner with a red cross in.Certain pictures dont load either but most do..

Ive tried reinstalling flash player and video drivers,also java is enabledstill nothing,this happened a while ago and i did something that i followed off the net and it worked cant remember what though!!

Do you have the latest version of Windows Media Player?
