What i would like to do is have a 'laptop' (or small system possibly with out screen) which can record at least 2 camera inputs.
These are the cameras i would like to use (as ive had good results with them).
Now if these can be used to input to a computer (or another camera used with a high res) I would like to make the system they input into fairly shock proof.
This instillation would be mounted into a car which gets some big vibrations.

At present the system used is a video camera mounted on a roll cage in the car but this has problems.

Im probably dreaming and its not possible but I need to research the idea! The problems i can see are the hard drive not likeing the big vibrations and i have no idea if a camera can input directly in and be recorded.

Any help, comments, points, general pointing and s******ing would be appriciated.

depends how much your gonna spend for those cameras if they are analogue ie you can plug them into a vcr you will need two of these

    and a shock resistant harddrive

you will also need a 12v/AC power converter,it would be cheaper and easier to buy two good quality digital camers

Are you gonna do something stupid like drive into a brick wall,GREAT :) post a link to the video

Thanks for taking the time to respond!

No im not planning on hitting a brick wall (trees are a possibility but i try and avoid them). It would be going into a forest rally car (pug 205 gti). At present we mount one of them cameras on the roll cage and its cabled into a camcorder with an analouge input but we got quite a bit of head shake and due to a coming togeather between the roof and the floor the camera is now an 'ex-camera', it has ceased to be, its expired and gone to meet its maker! Its a stiff! Bereft of life, (sorry, got caught in a monty python moment there).

So i was exploring the idea of using a pc to record from the camera on the cage and possibly a second camera in the bumper or under the mirror.
The main facilitys Im after are a long record time (7 hours) and the ability to record more than one input.
That shock proof hdd looks like you wouldnt be able ti use it for the OS because its on USB? Also the shock is quite a resonably violent and continuous, would this be overcome-able or do you think im going up the wrong street here?
And would 2 cards work togeather ok (i realise it would need to be a reasonable spec machine)?

    cheers very much
