Video tapes to DVD

I would like to transfer a bunch of vidoetapes to DVD ( videotapes of my family events, NOT for pirating VHS tapes. Really. ) These tapes are extremely valuable to me and I do not want to screw them up. I have seen devices for making mp3 from cassette tapes, but nothing for video cassettes. I have not worked much with video on my PC (other than internet video), so I am hoping there is a simple idiot proof way someone can suggest to me, as some of the tapes are getting very old, and I am concerned about losing what is on them.

Suggestions welcome. And remember, you are trying to explain this to an idiot.

Easiest way is to use a digital camcorder, and connect that to your video source.

If not, you can buy capture devices or converters etc.

I suggest you google and study this, there are various methods (depending on what you have or which you choose), and it's not really something that can be covered here easily.

If your processer is fast enough, you can use Dazzle hardware to connect your VCR to your computer.
