My card is getting too hot :(
    It's getting up too 50 degrees C (around 120 degrees F)
Is my GPU fan running too slow?
If so, how can I let it run faster?

We can't tell you if you're fan is running slow, if you don't post its speed, amigo. ;)
There are several software utilities on this site that will give you the information. I've heard speedfan is a good tool, but you might also try Everest or SANDRA

    Enjoy!

I have Everest but it doesn't tell me anything about my videocard fan so now I'm downloading sandra :)

What gives you the idea that this is too hot? I mean I have a 6800GT and it runs at 54c idle or with light use. This is with a well cooled system. I have 3 fans on my case, a coolermaster cpu fan, a zalman vf700 fan on my 6800.

Know what the temp threshold is on my nvidia video utility? How does 120c sound? It actually functions at up to 120c fine. :)

Becos it's messing up the textures and line of sight etc.. and sometimes even crashes! Most ppl on other forums said it was too hot indeed, as most cards run usually between 30 or 40 C, that's what they said. And it's NOT a software problem, I reinstalled my OS and tryed any possible drivers but nothing changed.

If you tell me your graphics card make and model I will be able to tell you if 50 celcius is too hot. I'm sure it isn't.

I have a Leadtek WinFast A400GT(6800GT) with an Arctic Silencer NV5 cooler. And does your card really run without problems at 50 C?? We have the same chipset and good coolers. I really don't understand why my card has problems

6800GT, same as mine. 50c is completely fine.

I have a very cool system (not bragging :p) but cpu idles at 27c (athlon 64 3200+ - cool eh??) and my 6600GT runs at 41c, that's what everest says now in fact.
Graphics cards just run at these temperaturesand it is normal.

You probably have a setting that isn't correct, such as the apature settings in the bios, the set memory in the bios, or the system refresh rate (I have mine at 60Hz which is fine) or the drivers, despite you saying you've tried them. Have you tried the drivers from the nVidia site? Usually better than the ones supplied with the card.

    50c is just fine
The leadTek 6800 WinFast series graphics cards run cooler than most other brands, those stock big honken coppers heatsinks are sweet.

I have Leadtek 6800LE, All pipes Unlocked, 5 of the 6 vertex shaders unlocked and I run OCed 360/875 (stock is 300/700) runs like a GT
My GPU idel is 45c, max temp never seen over 56c on stock fan/HS.
I did cut a hole in the bottom of my case directly below my Graphics card where i put a 92mm case fan, that shaved a few degrees.

My first thought is you should be running much cooler with after market cooling, till I read this:
    http://www.nvnews.net/reviews/arctic_cooler_nv5_silencer/index.shtml

A few things come to mind
Is it installed properly? did you install it? what kind of thermal paste used?
    what rev ya got
Heat isnt the problem, unless your readings are incorrect.
Check out the Benchmarks, look at the Temps Posted!
Glad I didnt buy one, my stock performs better, but my overall cooling is probably better than most

Try setting your graphics aperture to 128 or 256 (megabites).

BTW, how much RAM do you have?

  14. Angerfist

    Angerfist Private E-2

    I have 1.5 Gb RAM
But where do you change graphics arperture?

  15. mcadam

    The bios.

If you don't know, I wouldn't go into it as you can cause some harmful changes to your system.

Ooooh you mean the settings on start up if you press F12 or something like that. Yea I checked those settings before and I saw a setting 'AGP aperture' and it was set on 128 so I set it on 256 but when my pc rebooted it turned off and rebooted, turned off and rebooted, turned off and rebooted..... etc...
after a few times it kept booting and I quickly changed the setting back to 128 and it didn't turn off anymore.. anyone know what was going on?

Sorry to butt in, So if im running speedfan the temp in my taskbar or ambient is the temp of my video card or the temp in my computer case or the motherboard or what? if its not the temp of my card how do i find card temps?

  18. Prophets21

    Prophets21 Staff Sergeant

pinball, ambient means the air temperature within your case. you may find your motherboard temperature in your bios.

Ok I've set AGP arperture to 256 mb but nothing changed. Do I have to install a newer Bios version?
