okay i posted this same question before but i figured i would try again...so here goes...

when i play any kind of video (except pure uncompressed .avi, .flv, or .swf files) i can hear the audio but there is no video. the only way i can show the video is to connect my comp to my tv (usin svideo), boot up my computer w/o my main monitor enabled (use the tv only), and then when my computer is all booted up and logged in, i have to enable my main monitor and disable my svideo connection to my tv. then (and only then) can i watch video and actually see the video. that is, until i reboot my computer again...

    (btw, dvds dont show either)

i've tried every kind of media player, none of them work. booting my computer up with my tv is the only way to watch video, and it takes a long time (besides, i have a crapper tv)

    someone please help!

here's a link to my video card:

no, i haven't downloaded any codecs or codec packs that i can remember

(this is totally unrelated to my problem, but the website says that my video card doesn't support dual monitors. i have run dual monitors countless times...weird)

If you ran dual monitors, your computer might be set up to show the video on the 2nd monitor (like a tv) and that's why you are getting a black screen on your main monitor, screen 1.
Go through the display properties and be sure that dual monitors are not set up anywhere. Also check the video properties in the programs you use to play any videos.

i hooked up double monitors w/ my tv, changed some random settings, and it worked! so i hopefully wont have to mess with anything else, as long as I keep my tv connected i think it will work.

the new monitor that im getting will have a DVI connection, the one im using right now has a VGA connection, so i will post back when i get my new monitor and see how things go.
