vidstub.sys (Vista)

I went to startup my laptop, running vista, this morning and the startup repair showed up. It tried to run the repair and said that the following file could not be repaired. In the log i found this line:

"Root cause found:
-------------------------
Boot critical file C:\Windows\System32\drivers\vidstub.sys is corrupt."

I am wanting to have to restore the computer due to important programs and documents on the computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

 

Update:

I finally got the computer to start up in normal mode, but I have to hit F8 in startup and select "Last Known Good Configuration." The computer will not startup in safe mode or any other way. Also I have noticed that ALL my system restore points have been deleted so I cannot restore back to a previous point. Should I go in and delete vidstub.sys out of the drivers folder? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks again for you time.
