Hi Folks, I have a problem trying to watch videos from YouTube and Windows Media Player. When the video starts, my computer restarts. I can't view anything. Any suggestions.

I am using Windows XP and I use IE 8.

    Greetings, mamasgolfing.

Trying to get a handle on what's going on here. When you try to play a video on YouTube, Windows Media Player opens? Normally, the video is played from within your browser, not through WMP.

As a further file association test, go to this thread, pick a video, try to play it and see what happens - these are embedded videos.

And, one last quickie: go to Control Panel > System > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings. In the System Failure section, make sure that 'Automatically restart' is not checked, and that 'Write debugging information' is set for 'Small memory dump'. Ok out, and the next time the machine crashes, hopefully you'll get a Blue Screen we can work with.

The OP said that the computer will reboot when youtube plays or WMP. Not that youtube opens WMP.

Yeah, that kinda confused me - just trying to get some clarification.

Sorry, fellows, but your messages came to an email address I don't use too often. I'm afraid I didn't give enough info on my original post.
I had downloaded a bunch of updates from Microsoft just before I noticed that I could no longer watch videos.

To make a very long story short, I had gone to the Custom downloads and downloaded an update for my video player. This is where the problem was.
I should have gone right to the nVidia site to download. Did that and everything is fine now.

Not sure of where to go on this site to update my information, but will try to look around for it. I do want to thank you both for your quick replies.

    Good morning.

Glad you got things sorted - guess you learned the hard way that Microsoft is not quite up to par with their driver downloads.

As far as editing your contact information, go to your User CP in the links bar (top of this page), Settings & Options > Edit Email & Password.

Thanks for the feedback, and good luck to you! :major
