^ Has been on my computer since I bought it, and I never really found out what it was. Lately, I've been cleaning out stuff that I don't need, and I saw the "Viewpoint" folder in my Program Files, and "Viewpoint Media Player" on my Add/Remove Programs list. I just wanted to know if it's important to have or not, since I can't recall it ever doing anything.

    Thanks in advance.

Looks like Viewpoint is a 3D and graphics media player. Appears to come on Sony computers among other OEM's

It appears that it would be OK to remove as it looks to me that if you come across content in the future that requires Viewpoint, it will be re-installed from their website
    (sorta like Flash player)

    others may know more :D
    (well...OK.... most know more!)

Would it fudge anything up if I uninstalled it?

Oh, and I have another question.

On Windows XP Home, does anyone else have a folder called "Shell" in C:\? I think it's from a misextraction of a visual style for StyleXP, but I want to make sure.

    Thanks everyone.

I removed it from my computer a long time ago and have had no negative effects. I used the control panel add/install and then did a search of the registry for "Viewpoint" and deleted all keys that were left behind.

I was told (can't even remember who told me) that it came on my computer as part of the free trial of AOL software that comes on most new machines. Of course I have deleted all AOL traces also (and there were many, many :)

Viewpoint installs off of dvds usually, the only thing it will do will keep you from using the dvd-rom features of the dvd, and it will ask you to install it every time you put the dvd in.
