I came across this web site looking for information about removing the google redirect nightmare. Thanks for providing so much excellent information.

This seemed like a nice place for an intro and to say hello, and thanks.

I've had records for decades but I'm reluctant to classify myself as a collector.

    Nice forum.

Well, I don't collect albums any more as CD's are the thing these days but I still have a turntable in good working order.

Man, shades of Robert Johnson or Charley Patton or even Seasick Steve!:) Thanks for that. :)

    Re: vinyl records

I haven't gone back to listening to records. I never stopped. Shellac too.

I have grey hair so, yea... records was what we grew up with. I recall when cassette recording became available to the public. As a guitarist I was suddenly in home studio heaven on a budget. Those days were fun.

Things were less automagic and fast paced.

Anyway, vinyl isn't back. It never really went anywhere. The people went away from vinyl is what occured.

I remember when CDs came out.

I purchased maybe a dozen since that time. In contrast I can't count the records I've obtained in that time. I recently sold a rare 45 rpm for nearly 1200.

That was fun. I obtained it at retail back in the early 1970s for 39 cents.

    Who dat.

lol we used to use them in school crafts to make things like that, I guess no one ever thought of a new media making them valuable.

While vinyl are retro and cool etc, we have to be realistic, the quality of sound is nothing compared to CD or Digital.... but there's just something about that crackling that .... I dunno, makes you feel at home.

My mother has one of the Beatles early LP's in mono :-D
I've got a chunk of records back home, god knows what condition they are in though.
I remember my old record player, I think it was a Grundig, use to be able to stack 6 records to auto play and every now and again in would drop them all at once and the needle arm would drop to the side and make all kinds of horrible noise, making you rush over to rescue it lol

i have many 78 rpms and a victrola but i don't use that much, frankly.

45s were never my thing but i've made thousands from them, so yea.

my mcintosh tube amp / turntable system will blow the socks off of anything digital.
no debate. everytime a digital head hears it they stand corrected.

ipods can't rattle windows in a venue.
    my mcintosh can break glass.

sound engineers know what i'm referring to.

I still have a sizable collection of L.P.'s and 45's, and some old 78 speed, thick shellac ones, (that need the needle changing from diamond to ruby). Some pretty valuable collector's pieces there, I guess. I have some rather rare quadraphonic recordings, when that was considered the new ultimate in Hi-Fi. Can't say I play them much anymore.

Vinyl production is way up... 65% or so...

in contrast CD production is way down.

Here is a link to what some records are worth these days.

I have often found vinyl at a flea market or 2nd hand store for a dollar that was worth hundreds, and occasionally thousands.

anyone who uses popsike... do that web site owner a favor and don't use it for bing crosby records.
    nothing that common is valuable.

john lee hooker is rare, not bing, if ya get my drift.

here is what turntables look like these days

I have gray hair too and a fair collection of vinyl albums and the stereo and turntable to play them on. I listen to them from time to time. It drives my wife nuts.

I remember once about 10 or 12 years ago my son came home and asked if I ever heard a song that went something like "Nobody's gonna beat my car". I immediately went to the stereo and pulled out Deep Purple, Machine Head and played the song he was trying to find. I didn't think it was that great a task but he was pretty impressed.

I find a lot of records at the Goodwill store here and have to admit that I buy some of them. I don't know exactly why I do that since I haven't had a turntable in over 25 years!

I saw Beethoven's 4th on LP on the way out of the thrift shop last week. If it's still there I'll probably get it tomorrow.

    I also have a 8-track player/recorder.

The trouble is, I like keeping all my music on the computer. It's so much more convenient that way. So I'll have to find the sound recorder (and other early accessories) on my Windows 3.x disks and "install" my records ye olde fasioned way. Like loading software from cassette when my desktop was still popular.:cool

Has anyone else tried that yet? Have any problems?

My dad wants me to convert his whole collection of old LPs, he even has the complete TIME.LIFE "The Swing Era" collection, hard cases, booklets and all. I think in total there are around 150 or so records. It's quite a daunting task, I'm only about 1/8 done.
