    Hi i got this router and I'm wondering if there is any wireless activity on it before I open it .

    It's called:

    D-link DI-804HV
    4-port Broadband VPN
    Router
    Express EtherNetwork
    http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=59

    I'm still clinging to win98 SE so I needed some none XP exclusive routers.

    I had wanted to order the router I had before, the DI-704UP , which clearly says "wired" on the box but they only had the DI-804HV. I want a modem with only wired capability. Having wireless that isn't used isn't enough because it still emits a small wireless field around the modem.(don't ask)

    This modems looks allot like my old one, there is no antennae. But there is this picture on the back illustrating the Virtual Private Network which makes it look like it has wireless on it, picture is attached. Descriptions I've read online of VPN keep referring to "remote access" and wireless so I'm confused about my own router.

    Thanks in advance for any feedback.

    No, it does not have wireless capability.
    If you go to the specifications portion of the product description of your link, it shows the following -
    * IEEE 802.3 10Base-T Ethernet
    * IEEE 802.3u 100Base-TX Fast Ethernet
    * IEEE 802.3x Flow Control
    * ANSI/IEEE 802.3 NWay Auto- Negotiation

    These are the specifications the router is manufactured to.
    No where does it refer to any 802.11a,b,g,n specification which are the wireless specs.
    VPN is a way for offsite employees to communicate securely with company servers and get work down from home or while they travel.

    The illustration is supposed to represent a VPN as in a tunnel through the Internet, hence the 'tunnel' looking thing passing through the cloud (representing the internet).
    Also routers really don't care what OS your running as long as you can open a browser and get to the config page for setup. It may matter if you want to use the fancy install CD to set it up, but really who needs them?
