virus attack

    hi this is my 1st so apologies if ettiquite is incorrect.
    basically i of course accidentally allowed something called i think privacy defender or something similar onto my pc and its now shut everything down so i cant get past the home screen.
    any suggestions please?

    thanks kestrel, i read the run and read me stuff but i can't actually do what its telling me to as i cant check i'm only running one antivirus as i can't get to that folder in the computer? does that make sense?

    What folder? :confused Do you mean you cannot access add/remove programs or "uninstall a program"? Just continue on anyway. ;)

    i mean that when i turn on the pc it loads the home screen but i have no option from there as when i hover mouse over the start button, that box opens but its empty.
    then loads of error boxs open talking about hard drive problems etc,.
