Ok do you have any virus protection? Mainly NAV 2004? If not get it. Plus if you don't have Stinger.exe I suggest downloading it asap. I believe you can download off of this site. I've seen this before and it is a virus. I believe Stinger may be able to get rid of it. If not than get NAV 2004.

I think i have seen this before. You probably cannot open Run->type msconfig either. What i have found is that there is a files starting up, at boot, that causes this. If you run Easy Cleaner http://majorgeeks.com/download414.html it has the option to edit the boot items. Remove the C:\Windows\System files that look out of place, ie. usually does not make sense (ex. C:\Windows\System\vjhjduk.dll). After that you may wish to actually go to the specified file and rename it "*.old"(* being the name of the file). Then go online and try and run an online virus scan ie Housecall, Panda Antivirus

Hopefully this will help you may also want to download and install Adaware and Spybot S&D.

    Hi starsun,

    You should start here :

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

Many of the steps given by the other posters are covered in this tutorial. You should follow the tutorial carefully - as best as you are able. Note the steps you are able to complete and the ones that give you problems. This will make it easier for the experts to help you if you need more assistance.

RCCGRUNT - I suggest you run a search of the Software Forum to find out what many here really think about Norton.

    Best luck,

    PP

Well that's what I have and haven't had a problem with it. MacAfee isn't that bad either, it made Stinger. I haven't really used the other ones.

    Hey RC,

I don't mean to come across as harsh or jumping your case. Its good that you want to help :) But, telling people to get Norton is a bit hasty - especially when MGs has superior offerings, some of which are FREE.

Also, Stinger is a good tool - You should note that it is included in the tutorial that everyone is asked to follow. However, it only detects a finite number of predetermined threats and generally will not find things that the recommended online scans miss. It is, however, a good step if one is unable to complete the online scans as prescribed in the tutorial.

Take the time to acquaint yourself with the tutorial and why it is a good starting place & let's keep the rest of this thread devoted to starsun's problem.

    Hang in there ;)
