Virus. msblast? sasser?

About 8 months ago my friend got the blaster worm on her pc and i fixed it with the windows update patch and deleting all the associated files. Well now she has another virus that is quiet a bit harder to remove, actually impossible so far.

The virus is blocking me from doing anything related to the virus. I tried running both the fixsasser tool and fixblaster, and both got errors as they ran and couldnt finish, even in safe mode. i tried installing both patches for the viruses, and windows updater wont work, even when i just run the single patch file that i downloaded from a diff comp., it says the update.inf cant initialize or something. then i tried to install norton internet security (the only way i could get antivirus on there) and it wouldnt install, it got errors every couple seconds.

I've discovered that the processes that run are unusual. there's no msblast.exe, so im guessing its not that virus. there are 4 or 5 svchost's running. whenever i end every process besides the main system ones the pc still runs fine, but when i end every svchost process, the System Shutdown box appears with the countdown, so i know it has something to do with the svchost processes.

there's also no avserve files on the pc, which i thought was the sasser, so im totally out of solutions. this virus is kicking my butt. all i really know to do is try different antivirus softwares, like avg or kasperky but i doubt that will work. does anybody have any solution to this?

in the future she'll run windows update EVERY day or not get on the internet!

she's running WinXP home. i cant get the service pack or updates from windowsupdate.com because the activex is messed up, says the security is too high, but it's on low level. ?

 

INFO on svchost

windows xp needs a certain number of processes running to work and svchost is one of many that run. i too have 4 svchost.exe running . its quite normal
