    Hi,

For the last few days my computer has been messed up, and I was hoping you guys could give me some advice.

I am unable to play any sound, whether it's from songs, games, or whatever.

When I start the computer, which takes longer than normal, the taskbar, start button and internet explorer are in the "classic" gray style like the old versions of windows. This goes away after a minute or two. It also beeps twice after startup, and occasionally at other times, like when I'm exiting word or excel and it prompts me to save.

However, a couple times when I was on the internet it switched back to that style, and then I was unable to go to any websites because it made me try to connect, even though I'm already connected. I then had to restart.

I have already run Norton, ad-aware, and spybot, but I haven't solved the problem. Norton found nothing; I eliminated some spywear but it didn't fix this. Incidentally, when I click on Norton, the automatic live updates option is turned off, even though I turned it on. I went to a website that checked for parasites and found one, something called "mysearch," which I then removed.

I read that regarding the sound problem, I could possibly just download the drivers and install them, but I don't know if that would solve everything. Checked the startup folders to see if anything was in there, but no dice. So I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

    Hello,
First thing the Geeks and Super Geeks want to know from you are some details of you computer RAM and what OS you are running. That said and before the helpful offers pour in the first thing I would do irrespective of OS is get rid of all the build up of GUNK files. I recommend crap cleaner available on this site. Next thing again irrespective of OS is find out what is starting up when you boot up. Noting you have spy bot click on tools at the bottom left and then system startup. Disable anything suspicious. That is as far as I can go. Crook Ram chip or bad connection is also a possiblility. Hope this helps for starters
    Robert
