Ive got an old computer that was overrun by some type of virus and has turned in to a giant paperweight. I was going to try to fix it up and was wondering if there is anything specifically that needs to be replaced to get rid of the virus or if i just need to scrap the whole thing.

It was running Windows XP but i doubt anything in it is factory so if you need to know specific parts just ask.

That would help but the computer wont allow me to do anything. we are unable to access the administrator profile. When we turn it in it goes to a blank blue desktop. No icons, no toolbars, and i used to be able to start programs through the task manager but it says it has been diabled by the administrator.

You stated it is an old computer. Perhaps you should just do a reformat and clean install. Get everything new and working properly again.

Have you tried booting in Safe Mode?

yes all it does is takes me to a black screen where in the corners it says safe mode and along the top it says Microsoft (R) Windows XP (R) (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.080814-1233 Servise Pack 2)

well it seems i will no longer be needing your help. i Took it apart for cleaning and bumped a wire. Like an idiot i pluged it in while the computer was still running. There was a nice big spark and now it is dead so i either burned out the power supply or the motherboard. I dont think a virus will be the issue anymore.

I got it to start up again but now it wont even run the startup, i am looking at my processor and the pegs were bent is there a way to straiten them back out or is it toast?

Those bent pins could well have been the problem all along.
    Any idea how that happened?
    What type of CPU? Speed?
    Brand (AMD or Intel)?
    I may have one.

I know that you guys are just trying to help but all I am managing to do is destroy the computer even more the longer this takes, so what is it that I need to replace to get rid of the virus cuz a new processor wont do me any good on a dead computer.

So you managed to either burn out the power supply or the motherboard and dropped the cpu and bent the pins.
It sounds like rather than worrying about a virus (software), you need to focus on 3 pieces of possible hardware replacement first. We can't tell you which one, two or three need replacing. You troubleshoot hardware by swapping out parts. Since you probably don't have spare parts, buying a new power supply, motherboard and CPU would not be very cost effective.

I got the computer to start up again and all the pieces like the cd drive work but there is no display like it cant understand what it all means. so i dont believe it is the power supply.

laptop or desktop? If desktop and no display it could be video chip on motherboard, bad video card if one is installed or monitor problem.

The moniter is fine it works on another computer and it wasnt part of the original problem so i would say the bent pins would be what is causing the lack of visuals. Would replacing the hard drive get rid of the virus? there is no way to get to the malware removal and now it is just trying to salvage the parts i havnt destroyed yet.
