I recently got AVG (free version) for XP... and this doesn't happen during the scan but periodically AVG will launch an alert window telling me that I have a Trojan Horse and to launch AVG... I do that and have it perform a scan, but the program says that the scan is going fine. I also downloaded Anti-Trojan v5.5, but it also tell me there is no Trojan Horse. I'm suspicious that I may in fact have a Trojan Horse, because my computer has been acting kind of screwy recently... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Periodically? I am wondering if theres something your running that mat be considered a trojan by the program. Is there something your running or doing at the time that is always the same? Have you scanned for spyware at all?

If its a trojan you might consider using The Cleaner http://www.majorgeeks.com/article.php?sid=1666
Its specifically designed to get rid of trojans, worth a try.

Do you have a firewall? if not the it is advisable to have one, as it will also stop trojans getting out.
