The last worm/virus I got said it was often passed through addressbooks from MSN. If the emails are done online is it a problem vs. having MSN as your main site on your computer for email? Confused? I guess I am wondering if it functions like Outlook express. If MSN has problems, would you advise not using that program for emails/instant messaging? Once I do get the computer straightened out I don't want to see worms/viruses infect me right away. Our son uses MSN messenger and we use Outlook express.

Please give me an idea about what you use and what you think.

    Thanks for your time.

As far as I know MSN allows HTML email which can embed dangerous scripts and allows attachments. Disabling these sort of things can help, but most of us, myself included, like HTML email and attachments.

Im not sure if the email is your problem , but wonder if you have a good virus scanner, which should protect you? If not, consider installing AVG from our Antivirus section.

    Hope it helps.

Hi, Outlook Express is the main target for these people to attack as most people use it so they can cause more mischief.

Eudora used to be available with banner advertising for free.

Pegasus was another good free e-mail program.

I went the complete switch and swapped to Opera browser and e-mail. It too is free with advertising.

AVG is a very good suggestion but you have to keep it updated. The updates are usually about every 14 days and although you have to manually start it it will complete it automatically. Peace Mal

    Thank you

Thank you for your response. It is always nice to blame problems on someone else. I guess Outlook express is the culprit. I guess my son is off the hook for now. I will be sure to download updates weekly for AVG.

Gotta let the dogs out and check the pups again! No rest for the weary, but they are so freakin cute!

I didnt and would not, blame Outlook Express, in particular. Any email that allows HTML, ActiveX or attachments is a potential risk. While Outlook can be a bit worse then most, there is no excuse not to be running a virus scanner :)
