Hi, big "salute" to all the MajorGeeks on here :-D

I'm NOT sure this is "exactly the right place" to post this. But it is "malware" related to a DOWNLOAD from BOTH.... majorgeeks.com & filehippo.com

The ONLINE scan at virustotal.com found 1 result out of 42 scans for BOTH downloads of the SAME software.

In BOTH cases the scan done by ... AhnLab-V3 found "ASD.Prevention".

I WONDERED if it could be a "false positive". But I searched the "internet" & I didn't find anything to make me "think" it was a "false positive" related to the virustotal.com scan.

I found that this "suppose to be" a type of "trojan" that can download a file from the internet from some site in Korea I think ( or not depending on the "version" of it ). Also found in "bogus" emails from "DHL shipping service".

Please know....I "don't think" I'm infected because I SAVED the file & scanned it. But I did NOT open or run the .exe file yet.

I just HOPED you guys could TEST & RESEARCH the FOLLOWING....download ( from YOUR site )....to let me know if it is SAFE to open & run.

Downloaded file is as FOLLOWS: K-Lite_Codec_Pack_910_Mega-1.exe

I HOPE to get a GOOD but "rather fast" reply back as "soon as possible"! Thanks in ADVANCE for "any help" you can provide!!!

    Hi, again.

I just thought of something to ADD to this post as a "follow-up".

I'm thinking the "only true way" to be about 100% certain that this is a "false positive"...would be for "somebody" in technical support "here at MajorGeeks" to download that software & run the .exe file. Then check to see if "anything weird" happens.

Like Mcafee describes happens if the computer is infected by ASD.Prevention.

NOTE: Mcafee refers to it by a DIFFERENT name like "generic".....something.

I have this downloaded on "one of the MAIN computers" I use. So I do NOT want to "risk testing" it out myself...for FEAR of INFECTION.

But I HOPED someone in "technical support" might have a "TEST computer" they could use to see if it gets "infected or not". Then let me know about it. AFTER running a number of GOOD scans on the computer & looking for ANYTHING that "could be modified" by ASD.Prevention ( as mentioned on Mcafee's web-site ).

Thanks again "any help" would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

It is a false positive. Some programs can have one or more flags from Virus Total and still be clean.

I am a tad hurt that you are not aware we are one of the ONLY sites out there that tests downloads ourselves. Thats why we don't have a lot of listings, It takes so much time.

    In closing Mcafee sucks :)
