Visioneer 5800 USB Scanner problem

I hope someone can help me with this problem. My O.S. is Windows 98 and I have a Visioneer OneTouch 5800 USB Flatbed Scanner. I have tried to reinstall the software but the problem persists. I am not sure what or when the problem began to occur but when I try to initiate the program from the Desktop icon I get the following Error Window:

I too have a Visioneer Scanner(7100), and I will be honest with you, I don't like the ScanSoft software that came with it. I am running Windows XP, and when I installed the software, I had nothing but trouble with it. I registered it when I bought the system, and ScanSoft denied that it was registered and refused to Support it. After Three Installations that didn't help the MANY problems I had with the software, I finally deleted it and used the XP generic software, and have had no Problem with it scince. I really do like the plug and Play programming that XP has created. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

Obviously you aren't going to go out and replace your OS because of just one program, and if I were you I would try seeing if Visioneer is willing to offer some kind of support that will help. If I had realized that it would result in so much trouble before I bought it, I would have bought a Pricyer scanner with better software. As it stands, the XP software works great. Good luck finding a solution.
