Visiontek and AMD 3500 need help

Hi everyone,
Please excuse my ignorance if my question seems stupid but I am running out of places to look for help.
I have a Asus A8N-SLI deluxe mobo, 1 gig of Crucial Ballistix memory, and an AMD 3500. I was running 2 6800's in SLi and getting about 30 FPS in quake wars. I went and bought a Visiontek 3870, and now I am still getting 30 FPS. Now I do have the settings in game on high. But it doesnt matter if I set them down or not, I still get 30 FPS. I have also unlocked ingame the FPS to 60 and 90. I still am only getting 30 FPS. Is it possible my processor is just maxed out? Or what am I doing or not doing that I should be?

It may be the processor. IMHO I would find a dual core for your platform (reasonable low cost upgrade ) to test this out. It may also be lack of ram since windows uses a good chunk for itself leaving you with less for the game.

 

Thank you very much for responding. I am picking up a Opteron 185 next saturday, and another gig of Ballistix, for a total of 2 gig. do you think that will be enough to get better frame rates?

I believe so. When I went from 3.4 intel to pent d I also went from 1 to 2 gig and games played better for me IE bf2 (at the time it was still relatively new)
