    Hi there,

I've looked over the forums and google but I really can't find anything that is exactly like my situation.

I was editting a pdf with Nitro PDF and I got the blue physical memory dump screen and a restart. After the restart, 'windows problem center has stopped working' followed by a couple other start-up programs. I then go to access IE and I get the 'not connected to the internet' screen (which I am connected) followed by 'IE has stopped working' when I close it. This happens (stopped working error) when I close a list of programs like iTunes, my virus scanner but not Acrobat Reader or Microsoft Word.

I am wondering if anyone has a solution or can tell me what information/tests (whichever I'm able to run) I can do to provide you with more information.

    Cheers!

Sorry, I'd like to add that I've had this problem once before and a simple system restore worked. That is not the case this time- a system restore does nothing.

First I would suggest running chkdsk on Windows. To do this, either put in your Vista DVD or press F8 during boot and choose repair my computer. From there you would just click on Command Prompt. At the Command Prompt type chkdsk /b C:

Chkdsk takes a while to do, expect it to take a couple hours. Once chkdsk has finished, reboot and see if the problems have disappeared.

Any time your computer crashes, blue screens or if you experience a power outages data can become corrupted on your computer's hard disk, this is because windows was not finished either reading or writing to a file. Running chkdsk with the "/b" checks and verifies data and directory structures on the disk, and usually will correct them.

Thank you, I will try this.

I have dug deeper into the problem and each error report for each program includes the following 'fault module name:' stackhash_27dc.

Well the chkdsk was to no avail. I am going to keep searching for solutions on google. Any further help is appreciated..completely redoing Vista is kind of a hassle at this point because my DVD is at home and I'm away at university.

Okay, my virus scanner found a couple malicious files and took care of them, MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware found nothing..I think I should try system restore and chkdsk again..is that advised? Any other advice?

I can't get the Nitro PDF site to work. I've tried it on two computers and get a "not able to connect" error.

I'm not sure if the program needs to connect to the nitro site but if it is up and down that might be a factor in the problem. Just thought it might be worth a mention.

you may also want to check out your hardware, memory, hard drive, etc.

Now keep in mind as long as you have your product key, ANY OEM Windows Vista disc can be used as long as it reads "64-bit software only"). The Windows edition is based by the product key.

Does windows boot into safe mode, if so, do the applications run or give the same error?

So I ran everything in the README and it came out with no infected or malicious files.

Yes, in safe mode, the same errors occur..I am now having trouble restoring- upon reboot after the restore, it says that restore ran into an unexpected error. I have already deleted NitroPDF application and same problems occur.

But alas, I have taken it in to Staples (only place I know of on campus) to get it repaired for $40..I simply do not have the time to fumble around with it myself (knowing barely anything about computers) because exams are coming up.

    Thanks for the help guys.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

If you would, please post the steps Staples followed to repair your machine, if possible - I (and I'm sure others here) use and work on Vista 64 computers extensively, and any information is good...

Okay, will do. I'll just ask the tech what procedures he used to repair it?
