I was informed today that; "The reason you are having difficulties with the Administrator account is that you have it disabled:

    Yes | Administrator (Disabled)

A very quick Googling produced this:

    "Administrator Account
In Windows Vista, the built-in administrator account is disabled by default. In previous versions of Windows, an Administrator account was automatically created during Out-of-Box-Experience (OOBE) with a blank password ...".

Can anyone point me to a good read on understanding this? What am I to do - ENable it, or leave it as is? I haven't a clue (actually, I have two clues - hence, problematic ...).

    Thanks in advance ..........

Or just stop trying to run in the administrator account.

Well, if you mean "run" as in surfing the net, that doesn't happen here.

Otherwise, uh, I believe it does need to be 'gotten into', on occasion - no?

No! You should be using the account you created for yourself!

Well then I suppose it would be grrrrreat to find something to read about why it's even there then.

A pretty good guy once said: 'give a man a fish, you feed him for a day ... TEACH him how to fish, and .........' well, basically, the whole village benefits.

It is there for installing apps, tweaking the system and other things that are system related. Not for surfing. You should really only be using the account you set up for yourself. As someone also said, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. :)

It would be best if you stayed with your user account, made any changes necessary to fix problems on the other accounts and just got familiar with vista.

Understood and agreed. Thanks. Though my old 2000 (Pro) seems to look even better as time goes by ....

I would have to disagree with that, especially considering the UAC feature built in, I have been supporting windows for almost 10 years for a living, Vista AIN'T just wallpaper changed

if it was just a "cosmetic upgrade", why has it been so disastrous?

we can just agree to disagree on this, it is not just the UAC that is\was the problems with it.

btw, I'm A+, MCP W2K Pro & Server & MCDST (XP) certified idiot
