For some reason vista doesn't like installing simple devices. No pen drives will work and things like my usb floppy drive, usb hard drives etc.

It will not find drivers for them, these things that should (and would in xp) install without trouble.

Is there a simple reason for this? I don't tend to keep the discs that come with these things because they are only needed for 98.

Believe its more a problem on your pc, not a general vista issue as vista works fine with my mass storage devices no extra attention needed.

I'd double check the manufacturer to be sure that they are indeed compatible with vista.

Also, when ye plug it in, what does device manager say about them?

This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

It knows the name of the device, but won't install it. Things that should be plug and play like pen drive and usb hdd's aren't.

Also I have tried searching online for drivers but the only drivers online are for Win98.
