I've seen this problem all over and just can't find a solution for me. I recently bought an HP a6600f with Vista Home x64. I installed a TrendNet TEW-423PI wireless adapter since I am unable to run an ethernet cable to my router. Unfortunately, my computer will only connect to the router without going further. A friend of mine had messed with the settings and got me hooked to the internet for about a day before it died again but he doesn't know what he did and it obviously wasn't a permanent solution. I know the network is working and the signal strong in my room since I'm even able to post on this forum.

My router is a 3800HGV-B Gateway with the latest firmware. I've tried the following:
    1. "Diagnose and Repair" options
    2. disabled and re-enabled the router
    3. restarted the comp
    4. setting a static IP (which since I can't figure out what my default gateway is supposed to be that didn't do much)
    5. enabling MAC filtering and disabling the wireless security (I might add here that though my comp says it's connected locally, my router doesn't see it)
    6. downloaded latest drivers for the wireless adapter, though Vista automatically uses its own driver
    7. ipconfig /release and /renew

I might also add that when I did have internet it wasn't consistent, especially toward the end it would just sit and wait for responses from pages though it said it was still connected to the internet.

Disabling IPv6 does jack for anyone who might suggest it.

If anyone has any other suggestions, PLEASE help me!

No no, I'm using my mom's laptop. It's happily still on XP. Come on, assume I have a little common sense. Though I did have the internet working on the desktop working at one point with intermittent problems.

When you give the command ipconfig /release, it should show 0.0.0.0 for all IP addresses. The IP that you have will not work, nor will that subnet mask. Doesn't look like DHCP is working for some reason or another. Not being able to release the IPs wouldn't be caused by the router, though... I'm not an expert, but I'd guess that it might be a driver issue.

I would try reinstalling it first... The drivers should be installed before you put the card in, according to the quick start guide. I'd uninstall the current drivers, take the card out(after shutting down and disconnecting power, of course), and start fresh, installing the drivers first, then shutting down the PC, putting the card in, and booting back up.

After that, use the TrendNet utility and try to connect. You should be set to obtain addresses automatically in the IPv4 properties for that adapter. You can access those settings by going to Start>Control Panel>Network and Sharing Center>Manage Network Connections>right click the wireless connection>Properties>double clickIPv4.

In the router, when you enabled MAC filtering, did you add any macs to the filter rules? MAC filtering is used to block access to certain macs(or all except certain macs), so turning it on wont help in this case. If it's disabled, it wont block anything using MAC filtering.

    Anyway, hope that helps.
