Vista Home Premium, 32bit, I think it's SP1 (maybe SP2). According to the laptop's owner, everything was OK, he did either a MBAM update to new definitions, or an AntiVir update to the newest definitions, came back to the PC about an hour later and it was at a Blue Screen. I do not have this first error code or message. He rebooted and got this:
This is white letters on a black screen. That's it. No error, no real words. That's 16 zeroes in the parentheses after the underscore and before the .cdf-ms. Now when the PC boots, it goes to a "Windows did not start normally, do you want to perform Startup Repair, or Start Normally?" I just now started looking at this and have done nothing yet, other than look at the crazy error screen and post it here.... HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks!

    Happy Holidays!!!!!

Thanks! I'm reading through the info at the link provided, and at the other links posted at that link. Just for an update: I decided to try the "Startup Repair" and it's been sitting at the same screen with a scrolling blue bar for the past 30min; and I tried a System Restore before that but was given some weird error about how my installed OS was different than the OS on the disc. ???They're both Vista??? Anyway.... thanks for the link.... if anyone else has any info, links, tips, etc, feel free to post!

No problem. I know it's a ton of information, but I have received many answers from that sight in the past and given it was such an unusual issue it seemed appropriate. Anytime.

Well, after looking thru the info in the link you provided, I am unable to use any of it 'cuz it requires the PC to load to a desktop which ain't happenin', but thanks anyway. I did find this info which looks good, but I can't use Method 1 'cuz I'm told that my Vista install disc isn't Vista (???); Method 2 has been tried and it got me noplace; Method 3 looks promising but I don't think I can get to a command prompt since I'm being told my Vista disc is not Vista.....
    :cry :banghead :confused

Sorry...Vista really sucks in my opinion. It's the ME of the new millennium. and it's kind of the new bastard child of Microsoft. You may be looking at a reformat or just install XP SP# and be happy all together.
