Vista Boot Menu - Question

I was working on a client's PC yesterday: she had inadvertantly launched the "System Recovery" tool by pressing F11 when powering up; she thought she was launching "System Restore" - she wanted to roll back to April 14 for whatever reason. Needless to say, she wiped out all her data, somehow messed up the recovery and the PC locked up, then she brought it to me wondering why nothing was working. So, after I explained the difference between "System Recovery" and "System Restore", and after I told her that her data was basically gone (unless she wanted to pay extra recovery fees, but it had already been largely overwritten at this point), I formatted the main partition and installed clean Vista Home Premium x86 SP2. After installing the drivers and rebooting, I noticed that out of seemingly no-where a "Windows Boot Options" menu had been created. There were two boot options: the first was obviously Vista, the 2nd was "Ramdisk settings" which actually would launch the HP Recovery Partition. I tried to remove this 2nd option using various BCD editing apps, but "Ramdisk settings" wasn't even listed. So ended up just changing the "time before booting default" from 30 seconds to 2 seconds. I didn't want the client to see this menu, freak out, and end up wiping out her stuff again. So, the question is: why wasn't "Ramdisk settings" listed in any BCD editors? I used 3 or 4 different ones, but the only name I actually remember was EasyBCD. And why did this boot menu suddenly appear with any input from me? Weird.

(this long and tiresome post is just a question of curiosity more than anything else - I'm not having any issues, everything is running fine, I'm just wondering....)
