Vista boot problem

I'm encountering a strange boot problem on my new Core i7 build. I purchased a new hard drive (Samsung F1 1TB, SATA) along with new MoBo, RAM, CPU, and VGA. I installed XP onto the system with no problems, since I have an "upgrade" version of Vista.

The problem begins when I try to boot the Vista DVD from BIOS. Everything seems to go well, I select the DVD drive, it starts loading up the files, the pretty Vista blue background appears... and then nothing. I only get the blue background with a mouse (That I can move around, so it's not frozen).

Not being able to get this install menu to appear means, of course, not being able to install. I hope that someone here has experienced this before (I tried searching, but to no avail).

P.S. A list of my parts, just in case.

    Asus P6T Deluxe
    Intel Core i7 920
    Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333 (2x2GB) (Soon to be upgraded to G.Skill DDR3 1600 (3x2GB))
    Saphire ATI Radeon 4870 1GB
    Samsung Spinpoint F1 (1TB)
    Western Digital Caviar (500GB)
2 Lite-ON DVD drives (I have tried both)

    Hi

Is the date and time correct in your BIOS? also maybe worth on a new motherboard popping out the battery for 5mins and then replacing it back in, this resets CMOS as I just come across a stalled install with various Windows versions on some new mobos at times, and this strangely has worked.

Check their is no Virus protection enabled in the BIOS, disable it until the OS is installed.

Dont plug in too much of the hardware for inital install, keep it to bare bones until the OS is installed ok.

Make sure you at the start install the SATA drivers for your motherboard, some instruction here from John Barnett

Thank you thank you! I'm not sure which of your steps did it (Since I did them all at once) but it worked! You are my savior! haha. Thank you again!!

I am having the same problems. I get the blue Vista background with no options. This is my first build and I am using the same parts as Rimka. I have done everything except disable virus protection because I have no idea how lol! Also I am a little confused about the sata drivers that I need and how to put them in. I have even updated the bios. If someone could explain it to me that would be great!

Well I was able to get to the install screen for Vista and install it but it did not work. I keep getting an error message when I boot up that says "No virtual memory" "No physical Memory" I am really confused by this and am not sure what the problem is?!

    Hi MC Racer450

I have now managed to read the ASUS manual for tha motherboard and no BIOS antivirus is present so dont worry about that step, but did you remove the motherboard battery for 5mins or so?

Also as now memory is mentioned I would try one ram stick at a time and if its a single ram module then I would run a memory test as could be faulty ram, can do this from the Vista boot DVD and System Recovery Options, or running a CD/DVD version of Memtest86+

To burn the ISO image file to CD/DVD use ImgBurn thats easy and free.
