Vista can't boot...BSOD

Hey there.

My Compaq laptop w/ Vista will not boot. Power was interrupted while installing a Windows Update. Ever since then it gets a Blue Screen when trying to boot. Shows the progress bar at the bottom of the screen...then BSOD.

Tried Safe Mode, LKGC, every other boot option available. Tried booting from the Restore DVD, and after it loads set up files...BSOD!!!

So what other troubleshooting or repair options do I have? I'm good with troubleshooting XP, but Vista is new to me.

I can place the hard drive into an external enclosure, and do diagnostics on another PC. If I can do that, what repair options can I do from the other PC, besides checkdisk? Is there a way I can roll back or do a system restore?

Okay, so I tookm the drive out of the laptop, put it in an enclosure and now can access it from my Desktop PC running XP.

I ran Checkdisk, and it gets all the way to the end of Phase 5, and then says "Windows is unable to complete the disk check".

So now that I have access to the hard drive, is there any way I can uninstall Winodws Updates or remove any bad files that could be preventing Windows from starting?

Or can I do a System Restore this way?

I suggest your Vista is now beyond recovery.

With your XP you should be able to copy any data to the other pc.

then you can use the Compaq restore to factory conditions (F12 I think if you don't have a Vista DVD)
