Vista can't boot safe or regular, restore points corrupt

I have Vista on a Sony Vaio laptop, and at this point when booting it starts booting - shows Microsoft Windows with the bar moving at the bottom of the screen. After a few minutes a Blue Screen quickly flashes (can't read it) and the system reboots. Tried Safe Mode and it starts booting, then the last drive that loads is CRCDISK.sys, then the hard drive flashes for a while and the system freezes. I can boot from the Vista disk and ran the repair from there, but it does not do anything. With the Vista disk I was able to get to the restore options and tried the system restore, there are about 10 restore points that it lists but I tried them and get a message that the point is corrupt. One restore point did not get that error, but started the process but the message that it is restoring stays on the screen and looks like it is doing something but I left it for an hour or more and it never finishes.

I am familiar with the standard malware removal procedures on this site, but can't follow it because I can't get it to boot Windows. Any help would be great!

CRCDISK.SYS can fail for a lot of reasons. Check this thread. Maybe you can pick up some ideas.
