Vista cn't get to log in screen

\i've done a really dumb thing. I installed my fav anti virus program and forgot to uninstall the one that came with my new computer. As a result when I went to reboot to complete installation I created an error resulting in Vista hanging at the log in screen in both normal and safe modes. I have no installation cd so downloaded the recovery disc from vista. After 2 hours or so of "windows uploading files" from my boot disc I get stuck. It says there is a conflict windows\system32\boot\winload.exe .... the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing....blah blah...
Well after serveral attempts and being very tired I did manage somehow to get into the Install windows dialog box where I choose to restore from an older recovery point. Yaaahhh my computer booted and all was fine. BUT dumb thing.. forgot about my new antivirus and it installed again. BOOM same thing. Only this time I cannot figure out how to enter the recover program on my Vista recovery disc. For the life of me I cannot remember what I did to get it to start after the windows is loading file and then the system 32 boot error msg?

Anyone know what the command is when booting from the Vista Recovery disc to get into the repair your computer mode section to the recovery disc? I did it once but was like 4 am and I was so tired and pressing buttons F### until one of them worked! PLLLEASE help

 

Do you mean like how it used to be F8 for XP?

 

yes. I"ve got it solved now. For some reason the first time when I pressed F8 I only got the 3 safe mode options. but this time I got all of them and was able to get into the recovery disc. :-o Bit of a dumbo today. Been up 24 hours now. *sigh*
Soo anyone needing to know how.. Put in your recovery disc you downloaded. Just liek in XP hit F8 and you will get a list of about 12 options. Choose whichever one you need and voila.:cool

 

Are you sure it F8 and not F1? Usually its F1 for Vista?
