Did a Vista Update backup of complete ''C'' drive this morning and later during the day had a boot failure, so no probs I think shall put in Vista disc and retrieve the backup.. Ha Ha says M$ no you dont as I have wiped the folder out rather than adding to it. Checked HD where the backup should have been by using another Rig and it was nowhere to be found so tried Restore (from com. Prompt) this does not work or Repair so that leaves just one alternative, Is there a way I can use the Command Prompt to access the Vista disk to replace the missing or corrupt File. On 2 occasions i got a report that this was the missing file .............

\WINDOWS\Windows32.exe any ideas Geeks to save me having to perform a fresh install ??? :major

yeah, if the disk is in the drive, you should be able to change directory(cd) to the cdrom and browse the cd to find an executable to run. you can see what is on the directory by typing dir at the d:\(or whatever drive letter is your cd drive)dir
    d:\dir
then once you find the exe, all you have to do is type it in and it should run.

this is just how to find an exe in your cdrom directory. i dont know if this will fix your problem. good place to start.
