I have tried to get my Vista and Xp to talk to each other as I want to keep using the XP PC as it has the Printer hooked up at the moment and i cna't really afford to upgrade my Quickbooks at the moment.

i am getting an error code 0x80070005 access is denied when i try to browse for the Printer.
When I try to access my XP pC it tells me it cant because it can't access it and to check the spelling of the name or to check the network.

They are only hooked up to Router, i haven't run a newtwork wizard or anything like that.
I did change them all to Workgroup as I read you have to do that.

Any ideas would be apreciated thanks

Have you installed the printer software on the Vista computer?
Both computers must have file and print sharing on.
Both computers need to be in the same group to see each other. XP, by default uses MSHOME as the name. Vista uses WORKGROUP by default. So on one or both of the computers you have to change the work group name.

Most hits on the error you are seeing apply to windows update not working. This seems like it might apply to you

scroll down to troubleshooting because you are having trouble sharing a folder/printer.

    Hi there,
Thanks for reply, Vista printer sharing is grayed out and it says because of the firewall preventing it.
I shut the firewall off but still grayed out so not sure why that is.

Had already shared the printers and folders on XP
Had a look at that article of Microsofts and dont think that is it

    any ideas on that one?

    Cheers Turtle

Merntioned that the printer sharing was grayed out so cna't turn it on anyway, where is the password requirement thing?

Thought it was to do with the firewall but no cos i have tried disabling it and no diff on both computers...

go to start then control panel. switch to classic view so all the icons show up in right pane then look for network and sharing tools. once there all your options for sharing will be listed (to include printer)
