    WINDOWS BOOT MANAGER

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
    1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
    2. Chose your language settings, and then click "Next."
    3. Click "Repair your computer. "

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or manufacturer for assistance.

    File: \Windows\system32\config\system

    Status: 0xc00000e9

Info: Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing, or corrupt.

We had this problem crop up two weeks ago. This is one of the screens that I would get. Another referenced that an I/O device may be causing the problem. Machine is 6 months old and has had very few issues since we got it.

I began disconnecting devices and after disconnecting the lower Light Scribe I was able to boot the machine. I left the side pannel off the case and for the next few days the problem was almost non existant but still occured comming out of sleep. During my disconnecting the cables in the back I noticed that the exhaust air from the PS was very hot.

When we purchased the machine the store upgraded the graphics card and and the PS. Looking at the PS ( Antec 480W) I could see no Fan! The store had installed the PS with the fan on top against the top of the case! I took the machine back to the store and they "flipped" the PS over (fan on the bottom and open to air). The store tech said the PS over heating could not have caused the problem. Well, it's been a week now and the machine hasn't had a problem. It's been buttoned up since returning from the store. Either it was the PS or they disturbed ( accidently reseated) something else as they flipped the PS over.

I mention this only because I have searched the net and could find no solution to the problem.

    Thanks for the information, Ampbomber.

The moderators have moved this post to your own thread for all to see, benefit and comment on. That is the way Major Geeks works. You should never your own problem onto another's thread.

Would be nice to know the make of the pc. It's true that many modern psu designs have (large) side fans which potentially could be reverse mounted.

Incidentally Vista version of System Restore is more versatile than XP and could probably handle the situation if you had genuinely lost your registry.

Since you are interested, here is some more info:
HP-Pavillion M7760N running MS Vista Ultimate
Intel Duo core 6400 2.13 Mhz system 32
    2 Gig of ram

Windows Boot Manager also said at one time:
    _________________________________________________________________
Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer
This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.

Status: oxcoooooe9 Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred.

Windows Error Recovery did have me " Launch Startup Repair" which got me back in business after a few attempts.

Another screen that came up during the few days this was going on was:
_________________________________________________________________Your computer can't come out of hibernation.
    Status: 0xc000009a
Info: A fatal error occurred processing the restoration data.

Is your post not for information only?
    Do you have a question?

While your psu was struggling I am not suprised there were random unexplained errors, which disappeared as soon as normal supplies were resumed.

    Questions, yes.

Why would it take 6 months to begin driving the machine nuts?

Has the PSU been damaged in the long run?

Anything else possibly damaged in the long run?

    And of course:
Why would the tech at the store say that the PSU could not cause these problems .

    Thanks

Diffusion processes cause aging of electronic components. this is very slow at normal temps but increases rapidly above about 60degC. So your pc 'aged' several years while it was being run in undercooled mode. Aging electronics suffers random collywobbles as you found out.

Possibly one or both, only time will tell. How long is a piece of string?

I would discuss that with the store manager.
