I have just bought a new ASUS P5WD2-E motherboard as a upgrade from my old Packard Bell one. everything went well with the actual fitting of it, it was easier than i imagined it would be. i formatted my harddrive (300gb SATA) over night so i could have a clean install of Vista x64. (it was Vista x64 on there already) once everything was powered up it looked good, so i put the original Vista x64 dvd in and it started to load the files the bar completes the loading. then another balck screen comes with the words Microsoft Cororation under another loading bar which also completes its loading. then it goes to the install Vista screen ( i know this because ive installed Vistax64 before) but it hangs there for about 30 mins and then the screen appears. i then choose to install Vista and please wait.... comes up and a hour glass apears, from that point i cant install Vista any further. it just hangs. i hope someone here can help me because ive been trying to do this for over a week!.:cry

    ---------------UPDATE--------------------

I just left my pc on for a hour and a half while the please wait... and the hour glass was up on the screen and this come up.

    Load Driver
A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing.
if u have a drive floppy disk, CD,DVD or USB flash drive please insert it now.
Note: if the Windows Installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, u can safely remove itfor this step.

does this mean i need a driver for my dvd drive to install vista?

Strange because optical drives usually don't need special drivers.

are you using a SATA drive? or usb? not sure it matters but that might be the case, you may have to get the sata drivers on a usb thumb drive first.

Alright guys, ive found out that the nec drive i have is having all sorts of problems with Vista and the motherboard ive just installed! it was perfect on the old motherboard, Vista installed perfectly, no troubles at all. so it looks like im going to have to buy a new drive just to install Vista again :( ive just installed xp x64 with no problems with this drive, so im going to think if i want Vista on here again. (i really liked Vista.. No troubles at all. untill now) i might just wait for windows 7 to be released and by that time i would have a new drive anyway.:cool

Will your computer boot from a USB drive? You need to look in the BIOS to discover yes or no. If so, consider buying an external USB CD burner or a DVD drive/burner and try installing Vista from the external.

Yes if i put a usb into the pc it would start from the usb. last night whilst logged into XP Professional i put the Vista x64 dvd into the dvd drive and copied the contents to a folder that was acutally on the desk top and attempted to start the installation from windows. everything installed well. after it had finished it started up but when i was logged in the dvd couldnt read anything, not from any disk. and the see through parts around the edge of the windows had gone even though i have vista ultimate. i could surf the internet though. so today i went and bought a LG dvd drive from Pc World. ive already tried it out and its still exactly the same. so now ive just installed XP Professional back on here so i can be online again :major i dont know what it is, it seems like even if i install it by other means, when its up and running the dvd wont read any dvds. its only since i changed the motherboard so it must be the bios right?
