vista has no CD?

Hi,

My sister has a new toshoba laptap with vista on it $1000 aud.
Now she didnt get a CD/ or DVD of the vista OS as we are told the machine doesnt need it as it is already installed.
I asked about what if i want o reinstall or add another OS or it crashes. They said it is inbuilt intoa partition and never fails and you never need to do that.

I also wanted to make a backup copy and load to my other PC on vista and hook up by network(by law i can do this I believe).

Have new pc's evolved so much in the last 3 years that OS never fail you never have any need for a orginal CD copy of the OS software?

 

That sucks. If the hard drive fails and you have to get a new one your screwed with no OS backup DVD. You have to go out and buy an OS DVD. Is there a way she can make recovery DVDs? If not contact toshoba and see if you can order it. You make have to pay for shipping.

 

You can only make a Recovery Set of CD's specific for that machine. If wanting to use on another machine, you will have to purchase the license & disc.

 

I was told that the partition is so secure no viruses can get in.

Also i can get a rescue dvd but really for $1000 you think you would get the software.

 

Most OEMs havent provided recovery CDs since the inception of XP. instead they opt to give you a run once recovery CD/DVD maker.

 

What a load of dung, no wonder Toshibas sales have been slipping, sounds like a Dell storyline, next time go with Acer, they do one thing, and do it well. Watch out HP and Dell, any of our future PC investments are going to Acer. Original Equipment Manufacturers don't back up their products with the Operating System CD or DVD, what a crock. I wouldn't purchase new without one. Break one off in the customers gluteal fold I guess.:kissmy

Buggy,you are right,cos I have Acer laptop for repair And the customer gave me Vista home basic DVD,just incase if I have problem with the OS.
