vista...HD full already??

I have a toshiba laptop with a 110GB hard drive. I have owned it for only a year and barely have any programs, music or pictures...I am not a 'gamer', don't create home movies on my comptuer, and have about 3 songs on itunes. It is showing that I only have 1.6 GB left on my HD...

here is what I have done:
run disk clean up
defragmented
removed unused programs
gone through each folder on the C drive, hovered my mouse over to see how much space is being taken up...it all adds up to less than 10GB
run a virus scan

any ideas of what could be taking up all of this space?

Its possible that a fair chunk of space is taken up with both Hibernation which is on by default and System Restore.

For Hibernation, click Start > Computer right click the C drive and choose Properties > Choose Disk Cleanup > and in the Disk Cleanup tab scroll down and you should see Hibernation and next to it a figure which is space taken, which can be in the GB range, if you dont use Hibernation then tick the box next to it and this will delete the space used for Hibernation.

For System Restore then do the same as above but click the More Options tab and then click under System Restore and Shadows Volume Copies click Cleanup to remove all the old System Restore points apart from the last one ( do this only if your PC is working fine with no issues at this moment in time ).

There are also some tools that show you visually what is using up all your hd space. I'll need to search for something that works in Vista.

The hibernation file is called hyberfil.sys
Make sure you have hidden and system files showing otherwise you will never see it.
