I have a gateway laptop. I did a system restore with Vista Home Basic. I then downloaded my drivers from Gateway site to match my laptop. Problem now my dvd worked for awhile, but now I can't watch any DVD's in it. I am lost. It will read data cd or anything like that. But I can't watch a movie DVD. How can I fix this issure. I am so upset with Vista already.

Launch Windows Media Player. Does it play your DVD. If not, what error message do you see? Do you have any other DVD Player software installed?

Yes I have tried that too. I get an error encoder missing. The DVD used to work. I downloaded everything from Gateway for DVD drive and it will not work anymore. I don't want to pay for encoder there must be a way to get it back but I am lost.

    Thank you

This the K-lite codec pack. Your computer requires codecs to read certain audio and video files, like those on DVDs. It comes with Media Player Classic, but gives the option to leave it out if you prefer WMP or another media player. It is free and works under Vista.
