    Hey all,

    Great site!

I think horrible, horrible Virtumonde is on my computer (or some other annoying piece of malware). I've been going through the steps you've listed for Virtumonde removal, but I've come up with a bit of a snag quite early on. It says to Remove files with the Add/Remove option, but my Vista Control Panel doesn't have that option. It goes from Add Hardware to Administrative Tools.

Is it located in a different area? How do I find it? Do I even have that option with Vista?

    Hi

Best option is to run the below as listed

But in Vista the add/remove is listed in Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features or type in the start search box add or remove and click add or remove programs

Now, I'm not on my Vista machine right now but yes, you do have the option. MS for some unknown reason (probably to drive us crazy :-D ) changed the name of add/remove programs to just programs.

So it would be Control Panel > Programs > (I will be called Programs and Features if you are using Classic View)

Also, if you click on Computer (used to be My Computer) there is a little button near the top that says "uninstall or change a program", that should work as well.

    And yet more help please!

Alright, I've been following the steps now that I found the Add/Remove Programs function in Vista.

I'm on the Vista Cleaning Procedures section of your guide.

I downloaded (but haven't installed) all the applications the guide told me to (SUPER Antispyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix, MGTools). I'm on the Disable UAC step. I restarted after disabling the UAC, and now all I get is a black screen with a little prompt bar blinking in the upper right hand corner. If I hit ctrl-alt-delete, it goes back to the initial boot screen with the F2 and F12 options in the lower right hand corner, but after that initial boot up screen, I go back to the prompt screen. I can access the F2 set-up menu (which I'm currently in).

Have I somehow screwed over my PC? Would it be ok to try and boot in Safe Mode? Help please?

    Hi

Yes try and boot into safe mode to run the guide as the malware is likely causing more and more issues.
