Vista Home 64:. No Internet after Win Update.

Can access folders on local net & successfully Ping Router, Hosts, Google, MS, etc., but NO IE Connectivity.

Weird Part: Net Diagnostics reports "Did not find any problems"; Network & Sharing shows active connection & activity; Attempts to set-up new connection result in, "You're already connected to the Internet." Firewall, Defender, etc. removed & re-booted. Hmmm.

Background: All worked fine before Update. Now LAN & WLAN show "Connected", but No IE functionality.
Tried to Uninstal/Reinstall LAN/WLAN via Device Manager -- No effect. Tried Restore Points; Tried Uninstall IE9, IE8.

I can't be the only one... Viewed Blogs, Knowledgebases, Chats... MS won't support HP OEM, & HP's site is lacking -- Actually they're idea of support is feeble.

Any kind & knowledgable souls have advice?

    Hi Satrow,

Thanks for your warm & quick response.

OK, made the screen look like that (actually no adjustments required). No Go. Even tried the machine/modem power-down/up routine. Oh, ISP is AT&T (Yahoo) in SoCal.

My laughing wife is an Apple freak -- Any way you can help me save face?

Hmm, ok - you could try setting the Auto-detect just to test, it often seems to be the default, since XP was in Beta - never worked for me.

What 3rd party security programs do you have, or have you ever had, installed on this machine? I think you'll need to remove and check and remove any dregs of these. DriverView will allow you to check what drivers are actually loaded in Windows, Autoruns will allow you to disable them.

Copy the installer for Firefox or Chrome onto it, see if you can connect with either of those?

My bedtime now, I'll catch up with this later.

Try Internet Explorer (No Add-ons). It's in All Programs > Accessories > System Tools
