Vista Home will not boot up

Gateway Laptop, Vista Home, will no longer boot up in either a Normal or Safe mode. I do not believe any new programs were installed or downloaded, nor any new hardware added. MS firewall & Forefront are active on the machine.

1) When booting in Normal or Repair mode, I get: "Stop: c0000142{DLL initialization failed} Initialization of Dynamic Link Library WINSRV failed. The process is terminating abnormally."
2) When booting in Safe mode, the system will list the files then stop at the last file; "Loaded:\windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys"
3) When booting to "Last known good configuration"; the Windows Error Recovery screen comes up.
4) When booting in Debugging mode, I get this error; "Problem has been detected""UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME""Technical information""*** Stop:0x000000ED (0x852B3556, 0XC0000185, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)"
5) Running Windows Memory Diagnotics Tool finds no errors.
Any guidance or direction is appreciated.

1) all the information I found at MS with your particular error was for NT 4
2) Unfortunately, the last thing you see is not the problem; it stalls on the next file which never appears so what you see isn't helpful.

4) I found something for XP; not sure if Vista works the same.

If you have a fulls MS Vista disk, you can try a repair install

Note: this will not work if the disk you have is a restore/recovery disk.

The Vista Recovery disc may help you to repair Windows.

The Windows Vista DVD has a "recovery center" that provides you with the option of recovering your system via automated recovery (searches for problems and attempts to fix them automatically), rolling-back to a system restore point, recovering a full PC backup, or accessing a command-line recovery console for advanced recovery purposes.

Microsoft seems to have realized this problem, and have thankfully made a recovery disc for this purpose. It contains the contents of the Windows Vista DVD's "recovery center," as we've come to refer to it. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and just serves as a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC.

Thank you! The Windows Recovery Disc recommendation worked great & saved me $20 in buying the same disc from Gateway. Great job, AGAIN, as always...:celebrate
