    Hello, and welcome to MajorGeeks.

It could very well be that you have alot of stuff loading at startup that's slowing the system down.

If you'd like me to take a look at what's loading at system startup and recommend what can be eliminated, run the tool called Speccy, and save the report to to a text file, and upload the file here to this thread, and I'll take a look at it.

    Speccy can be found here:

First there may be a problem with two or three programs doing the same thing.
    You have Windows Defender enabled
You have Verizon Security Suite Firewall (not sure if anything else besides the firewall is enabled)
    You have Zero-Knowledge Antivirus enabled.
Check what is running on the Verizon Securiity Suite and also disable eother Windows Defender or Zero-Knowledge av

    Looking at your scheduled task

    4/22/2011 5:15 PM Automatic maintenance
4/23/2011 5:34 PM HP Health Check
    4/24/2011 2:16 AM RealUpgradeScheduledTask

For starters, turn off HP Health Check (Control Panel/Admin Tools/Services)
    and RealUpgrade.
Anything pertaining to Real player can be set to manual. You do not need the player going out and checking for updates and upgrades.

In your next post, list what is running in msconfig OR better yet, install CCleaner. CCleaner under Tools has a Startup button. Once you click it, you see everything running. There is also a button at the lower right to save as a txt file. Save it and attach it to your post so we can see what else is eating up needles CPUs.

Those can be shut off in CONTROL PANEL .
start>run>services.msc - right click a service, then click PROPERTIES and then change "startup type" to the desired mode. Don't forget to click "apply" if you make changes. Make sure you know what services you disable or stop, as you may have undesired results if you make the wrong changes.

http://www.processlibrary.com/ is a good resource i use when research processes i am unfamiliar with .

Vista is notorious for having a zillion unnecessary processes running, causing lag, especially in underpowered systems .
Deleting unused applications altogether is always a good idea.

I very recently cleaned up a friends Vista laptop that had similar problems, I googled "optimize vista" and found a couple of nice tutorials on what services are safe to disable or to set to manual, depending on what applications are used on the computer in question . It can be a time consuming process, but the results should be worth it. Just be careful and be sure to ask here if you have questions .

Easiest way: CCleaner/Tools/Startup list you posted. Highlight one item and to the right you seed disable
If you change your mind, highlight the same item and this time click enable.

    bsf might be malware

Before you do anything else, head to the malware part of the forum and have the malware fighters look at what is running on your computer.

    Go here: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=35
and do what is mentioned here: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407
