I'm working on a friends laptop. The problem is Vista will not access anything. In explorer we can see there is data on the two partitions, but when you select the Data partition it shows up as "folder empty". Even with the drive plugged in to another PC (running XP) the explorer will not see any files. I'm guessing it's some kind of ownership or file permission issue, but I'm not that familiar with Vista. The irony being Vista is a beautiful view.....I can't see anything:mad

    Thanks David,

I had tried taking ownership of the files and folders which were owned by the system...... it didn't make any difference.

What seems to have been succesful is.....

I downloaded FreeCommander, an alternative to Windows Explorer to the PC running XP with the laptop drive installed. It would show the files and allow me to change the properties which were almost all hidden and read only. I can now access the files through explorer on the laptop. I'll check with my friend that they can now see all their music, vids etc and report back.
