vista is freezing but mouse works cant click on anything

hi guys im having some weird isues going on im currenty runnig windows vista ultimate it like freezis but the mouse pointer works normaly seems like its not frozen at all i cant click on anything this seems to happening when im openin and closing widows or when i click on the task bar to open a window somtimes for for a littel while and sometimes dosent work at all the only way i can get it to work again is ctrl+alt+del to bring up task manger i click cancel and it works again i checked for virusus and spyware but my pc seems to be clean and im not runnig any heavy aplications or downloding anything and im not gettng any errors please help what can be cousing this its realy anoyingconfusedconfused

 

Sounds like a program is running in the task manager and its locking out the desktop and windows itself if you can find the program close it down and see if that works if not close them all down and then activate them one by one and you should find the program thats causing the problem.

 

i'v already solved my problem it was a bad keyboard try another keyboard and mousewave:-D

 

im havinng a diffrent problem now my pc wont go to sleep mode on its own when it does it comes right back on even if i try putting it to sleep manualy.. i have no programs open and still wont sleep!!! and my mouse is secure in place so its not being moved around or touched by accidentcry:cry:cryrolleyes

 

ok then thats some diffrent problem im not a pro but think it can be spyware and adware or virus try to post another post just tell them your pc is freezing good luck to ya:wave

 

what AV are you running? is it vista compatible?

 

I am not a big fan NIS as it can be a resource hog. If you have reinstall disks and Key for it, try uninstalling it and using a different AV. I am sure many have been recomended on this forum. That is just my opinion and where I would start on my own system.

 

Yes I use NIS09 also and am running Vista Ultimate on a Dual Core P4 w/ HT and have no issues ... tried uninstalling and reinstalling the K/B and Mouse drivers?

You took the words out of my keyboard jblim1980 ... this is the third time its happened, I ran an MBAM scan yesterday and it took 8 hours unlike SAS which took 1.5 ... and I couldn't use anything at the same time unlike SAS which I had full functionality with ...

 

I have this exact same problem - I WAS able to get my laptop to work in safe mode and selective boot mode (via process of elimination - the problem initially was in the Asus NBProbe spmgr, which I disabled and everything was working fine) yesterday, but now today when I boot up in either, even with everything disabled, it keeps freezing up. It's driving me mental - I can't even run any programs without it freezing them up after 2 or 3 minutes. And the only thing that works is the mouse. Can't ctrl+alt+delete or anything just have to force a manual restart.

I ran virus scans yesterday when the darn thing was actually functioning, but my system is all clean according to the scanners.

Am going to attempt to run CCleaner - but other than that, I have no idea what to do.
