Vista is killing me...

Okay, I just built a computer a couple of days ago and just got my video card and put it in. I turn on my computer for the first time and install Vista Ultamite 32-Bit. Once I installed, I had some trouble getting the internet to work, so after clicking around and entering the cd that came with my internet, Vista freezes... After 10 minutes, I manually turn it off by holding the power button. Next time I turned it on.. Oh my god. Startup took 15+ minutes, on the desktop everything click I make takes 5 minutes to do, opening a text file 5+ minutes... I click the start icon (wait 5 minutes), click the arrow (wait 5 minutes) click Shut down (wait 5 minutes) and then the page that says "Logging Off" takes 15+minutes plus my computer doesn't even turn off. My monitor (green light = on, orange = off) just turns black and the light blinks green and orange while my computer is still running... What do I do? Its killing me... I want to run my new rig

Can you run in safe mode?
Have you installed any updated Vista drivers for your motherboard/peripherals?

 

As an immediate solution, reinstall Vista. Then do the above suggestions. It'll take forever if you don't.
