    I have a Lenovo Desktop 3000 J110 Model 7393/
    OS is Vista Home Premium

I turned off the computer and left before it had completely booted down.

Later I discovered it was rapidly cycling (maybe attempting to reboot). The CPU and the CD drive lights would flash, the computer would click and the cycle would repeat. It would not shutdown or startup. The only way to stop it was to pull the power plug.

It had been unsuccessfully attempting to install an automatic update patch to Vista for several weeks. Maybe it hung during the shutdown sequence of this installation?

We have connected a power cord in case the battery was low, checked the fans, disconnected all the cords except the power cord, to no avail.

Tried holding in the start button and re-entering the power plug, still no change.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Iagree wiht the locksmith, this wont be hardware failure.

Can you boot safemode? have you tried? [tap F8 as you boot up]

If it boots it will give you an option to use a restore point, try that.

If that is successful, turn of auto updates until we figure out what update caused the issue.

F8 still won't boot. It was an automatic update for Vista. Service pack 1? In shutdown the computer attampted to install the update. This happened several times so I assumed the update was never fully installed.

I turned off the compter by Start, ShutDown buttons then all these problems occurred.

Should I re-post in Software Forum??

No dont re-post, it's no big deal, if a mod thinks it should be moved they will just move it :)

*i'm having a look round for info on your issue*
