I thought I had a virus so posted in this thread:

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=238796

The problem appeared fixed but has now reappeared - after a few hours of use the PC becomes unresponsive (frozen) and needs to be rebooted.

The respondent in the above thread suggested I post here so here am I.

    Any help much appreciated.

Pay special attention to when this happens. Go into safe mode by pressing f8 while you're booting up. While in safe mode perform a system restore. If your computer is set to do an automatic windows update, dissable that. I'm not sure why, but I'm using vista too. And each time I let the system automatically upgrade the o.s. it locks up, and I have to go through the same steps. so I just keep an eye on microsoft. And if there is a critical reason to upgrade, I do it manually. Problem solved. Good luck.
