Vista Laptop Won't Boot - Blue Screen

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 Svc tag 67SG9H1.

It doesn't want to boot. I ran through some diagnostics with a Dell Tech. I have very little faith in the Dell phone techs but I suppose we should start there. Edited for brevity.

Because the Dell technician said they would call me back in 2 days to see how the test came out, I decided to try to run Windows Repair off my original install disk.

After I did that, it booted. I clicked on Chrome, and got into the internet. But after that it wouldn't let me click or type anywhere, so I had to hard boot it. I am running the test above again, and will click N to the memory test, and follow the rest of the steps he's outlined for me.

After that - is there anything else I should try? I have a hard drive enclosure around here somewhere. It it would help, I can take the drive out of that laptop, put it in the enclosure, and use another drive to diagnose it.

 

You could try the external enclosure to get any data backed up, then try a diagnosis. My guess is that the disk has bad blocks and needs replacing.

 

The more I test it, the more I think you're right. When I reran the test he suggested, the second half of it was a chkdsk.

It didn't find anything wrong, but it deleted some corrupt files. When I rebooted it, it ran chkdsk again, and found some orhaned stuff..

I think your last description just confirmed it - get any valuable files off it fast.
